Charles Campion, a soldier, has escaped the biological testing facility because of a security malfunction. With him, a deadly influenza has been released that will kill 99.4% of the world population. Summary of the Book When the military finally tracks down Campion, the man who escaped the biological testing facility, he is already dead and has released the lethal strain of influenza. Before they know it, the flu has already begun killing people and will not stop till 99.4% of the population on Earth has turned to dust. Violence, destruction and death is everywhere and the martial law has failed to contain this outbreak. Soon, there are only a few survivors who are in need of a leader. Only two take a stand and lead the terrified survivors: Mother Abigail, a 108 year old woman seen as a spiritual leader, and Randall Flagg, an evil person who loves chaos and violence. About Stephen King Stephen King is an American horror-fiction writer. His books Carrie, Cujo and the Dark Tower Series have rocketed him to fame and fortune. He has also written under the pseudonym of Richard Bachman. King graduated from the University of Maine, where he met and married his wife Tabitha King. He lives in Bangor, Maine.
