The essays touch upon a variety of topics, including the judiciary, the bureaucracy and the party system. They also speak about the processes of domination and resistance which have been progressing since the Independence. This book encourages readers to look critically at the State and study how the situation has changed since 1947. About Partha Chatterjee Partha Chatterjee is an Indian scholar and the former Director of the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta. He is associated with the subaltern studies and postcolonial schools. He was presented the Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize in 2009. Chatterjee has also written The Present History of West Bengal, Lineages of Political Society: Studies in Postcolonial Democracy and A Possible India.
