Statistics is an introductory text on statistics and probability for undergraduate students studying mathematics. The book helps students understand the concepts of statistics, beginning with the fundamentals. It moves on to intermediate-level problems, showing students how to tackle real-world problems which are frequently analysed using statistical methods and concepts. The book helps students understand the principles through solved examples, all of which have detailed explanations. It also presents a collection of unsolved problems for students to tackle and test their understanding of the subject. In summary, the book is a unique guide to students trying to study the subject by themselves, and it helps them understand the concepts from an application point of view. About the Authors David A. Freedman was an American mathematician and academic. He was the Professor of Statistics at the University of California, Berkeley. He is remembered for his work on the analysis of martingale inequalities, Markov processes, de Finetti's theorem, consistency of Bayes estimators, sampling, the bootstrap, and procedures for testing and evaluating models. Dr. Freedman also wrote Statistical models: Theory and Practice. Robert Pisani is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, where he completed his Ph.D. He is mainly involved in studying the probability models of market-price behavior and the statistical valuation of financial instruments. Roger Purves is the Senior Lecturer Emeritus at the Department of Statistics, University of California, Berkeley.
