Organisations are adopting new ways and techniques for success and sustainability in the ever-changing, turbulent and aggressive scenario of marketplace. Parallel to these changes, and inspiring or legitimising them, is a set of ideas of a varied and complex nature known as Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM). Realising the importance of strategy in today’s competitive world, there is a growing demand of integrating corporate strategy with HRM. In this perspective, each of the HR functions is required to be aligned with business strategy. Human resources are the major basis of any organised endeavour. No matter how perfect is the strategy, it won’t succeed with flying colours unless human resources are earnestly and properly involved and committed to it. SHRM is closely linked with the performance of the organisation. It includes different aspects like recruitment, training and development, career planning, performance measurement, reward management and employment relations. The book Strategic Human Resource Management: Theory and Practice attempts to explore different aspects of SHRM. Using real illustrations to clarify the complexities of SHRM is the aim of the book. It has adopted a blended approach, i.e. integrating theory with practice. The presentation of the book is based on the contributions made by leading authors and practitioners in the field. Academics, researchers and students will find it useful in understanding the concept of SHRM. About the Author Nayantara Padhi is Senior Lecturer in Management at Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi. She has obtained her Master’s and Doctorate degree in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management. Her research papers have been published in major national and international journals. She has published a book entitled Human Dimensions for Total Quality Management. Her area of specialisation is Human Resource Management. She is also actively involved in research in the field of Open and Distance Learning.
