Metropolitan cities and city systems play a pivotal role in modern national as well as global economy. A steep rise in the role of knowledge as a factor of production and enhanced by information technology, globalization of production, commerce, trade and finance require new geography of cities with regional and global networks. Largely, the dynamics of urban enterprises which deploy themselves across space, consume resources, enter into different forms of cooperation or competition and transact with one another intra and inter-regionally can help under-stand the economic structure of cities and city systems. This book analyses the dynamics of Delhi’s economic structure at three levels, i.e., spatial, temporal and horizontal. The analysis covers the growth of industries in the period of three decades. The inter-dependence, backward-forward linkages and output multipliers of different industrial sectors are analysed using input-output technique. Besides, discussion on Delhi’s industrial policy, Master Plans, issues related to relocation of hazardous industries and unauthorized industrial areas is included as well. The book also gives an engrossing description of twenty seven industrial estates in Delhi.
