Tome Pires was the first Portuguese ambassador to China. He arrived in India via Egypt, Hormuz and Persia in 1511. In India the visited Rajasthan, Cambay, Deccan, Goa, Canara, Narsinga (Vijayanagar), Malabar and from there he went to Ceylon. From Ceylon he went to Bengal, Arakan (in Burma) Pegu, Siam (Thailand) Cambodia and from there to Cochin-Chine. He further continued from China to Liu Kiu, Japan back to Borneo and Philippines. His next leg of travel took him to Sumatra, Java, Southern-Eastern Islands, Banda, Ceram, Ambonia, Moluccas and the Central Islands. He gives a good account of Malacca, narrating its early history, relatives with neighboring Islands, the native administration, trade and a notice on the Portuguese occupation. A part of this book is on the nautical tables and Maritime navigation of that time. Added at the end of the 2nd volume is the book of Tome Pires in its original Portuguese. This work is in 2 volumes.
