Meet Carrie Bradshaw at 17. Summer And The City finds Carrie in the Big Apple itself and no less in the company of a younger Samantha and Miranda. The novel introduces her notorious friends and the bedazzling New York City in the signature style of Candace Bushnell that had earned her crazy fans from all across the world. Summary Of The Book Carrie leaves Castlebury behind and with it, her purse in New York as she accidentally misplaced it. Stranded and left with the only contact of Samantha Jones she makes her way to a fabulous party on her first night itself. Miranda soon makes her appearance as she collects Carrie’s lost purse from the trash and calls her to return it. She is an opinionated albeit badly dressed idealist and Miranda meets Carrie for the first time dressed in overalls and construction boots protesting against pornography outside Saks on Fifth Avenue. From here the story lurches forward with Carrie and the cast of oddball characters who paint the story in great humorous detail. She is in love with New York and although New York is supposed to be the pit stop till she joins Brown, Carrie’s heart has decided otherwise. However instead of attending the writing workshop Carrie finds herself in numerous parties. In Summer And The City Carrie grows out of her Castlebury roots and into the New Yorker who finally realises her dreams of becoming a writer. All the traumatic and hilarious experiences shared with and without her friends provide that elusive glimpse into the reasons that shaped Carrie’s future and also that of her friends. Summer And The City provides that delightful window into the pasts of these beloved characters and how they came to be. The mainstay of this novel is the refreshing literary style of Candace Bushnell and of course the colourful characters. About Candace Bushnell Candace Bushnell is an American author and columnist famous for her Sex And The City series that shot her into fame and fortune. Her most famous protagonist, Carrie is loosely based on the author herself. Candace Bushnell is known for authoring the entire Sex And The City series. Among her novels, she has written Lipstick Jungle, Trading Up And Four Blondes, One Fifth Avenue, , and The Carrie Diaries. Four of these novels have been turned into successful television shows and Sex And The City went on to fuel two blockbuster films as well. Candace Bushnell was born in Glastonbury, Connecticut and she completed her education in New York University. After struggling for a long time as a freelance journalist, she finally made her way into the New York Observer in 1993. Here she began writing a humorous column called “Sex And The City” which was later published in an anthology in 1997. It soon became the basis for the popular HBO show Sex And The City. She married Charles Askegard in 2002, but they have now divorced.
