The haunting and grotesque nature of the stories contained in this volume were what made Poe such a master of this genre, called detective-fiction, of which he is considered among the founders. The themes that are commonly visible in Poe’s stories are the power of the dead over the living, the conflicts that arise within individuals, and exploration of the dark side of the human mind and spirit. With the vivid portrayal of such dark emotions and the art of masterful storytelling, Poe’s stories are considered timeless masterpieces. The stories contained in Tales Of Mystery And Imagination tug on your deepest fears, such as whether the person standing before the mirror is you or someone else, if the door banging on a windy night is just because of the wind or some paranormal activity, and whether it’s a spirit that wanders in your room when you feel someone who isn’t there after you turn to look around. Such is the thrill experienced after reading Poe’s stories. Some of his most popular tales that are featured in Tales Of Mystery And Imagination are The Murders In The Rue Morgue, The Gold-Bug, The Pit And The Pendulum, and The Black Cat.
