If the parchment paper is labeled as "organic," it should be made without any synthetic additives or chemicals. This may also mean that the source material (like the wood pulp for the paper) was grown without synthetic pesticides or herbicides. This is a critical feature of both butter paper and parchment paper. Parchment paper, in particular, is known for its non-stick properties, which is why it's popular for baking. Butter paper (also known as wax paper) has a thin wax coating which makes it non-stick, but it's not suitable for high-temperature cooking or baking as the wax can melt.
