Contributed chapters by eminent Holocaust educators detail how to teach the Holocaust in history, social studies, and literature classes. Teaching the Holocaust is comprised of thirteen substantive chapters by some of the most noted Holocaust educators in the United States, including Steve Cohen, Karen Shawn, Paul Wieser, Judith Doneson, Stephen Feinberg, and Samuel Totten. It focuses on the rationale for teaching about the Holocaust, key instructional issues, developing model lessons and units, and instructional resources and materials. Special chapters on incorporating literature, first-person accounts, primary documents, film, technology, and drama into Holocaust lessons, units, and courses are included. The teaching strategies are field-tested, historically accurate, and pedagogically creative and challenging. Annotated bibliographies, a comprehensive chronology, discussion questions, and activities that teachers can do with students all contribute to the interdisciplinary approach of Teaching the Holocaust.
