Threat to peace in South Asia is considered to be an integral part of the region which has always tempted all the major powers, developed and developing countries, universal and regional organisations and non-state actors to keenly analyse the impact of nuclearisation and terrorism on their stakes in the area. The Chinese diplomatic manoeuvring, the strengthening of the Sino-Pak Axis, the developments in Central, and West Asia in general and the Indo-Pacific region in particular, are considered to be of great importance for the South Asian nations. The book has been divided into seven chapters. The review of literature, theoretical and technical aspects of nuclear proliferation, various approaches to examine terrorism-related issues, theoretical aspects of war and peace, the Kashmir issue, a bone of contention in Indo-Pak relations have been organised and analysed systematically. The study is extensively based on primary and secondary sources. The content analysis methodology and the traditional, as well as modern methods, have been applied in analysing various issues.Since the mid-nineties, nuclearisation and terrorism, probably, determined the relations of the two major countries of the region, India and Pakistan. The failure of SAARC, the changing role of the Army in Pakistan politics, the transformation from monarchy to democracy and fast growth of the Chinese influence in Nepal, the ethnic crisis taking a back seat in Sri-Lanka, ups and downs in Indo-Bangladesh relations and unending political uncertainty in Afghanistan, etc., in one way or the other, are part and parcel of the South Asian political, military, economic and social scenario. How the nuclearisation and terrorism determined the relationships of the South Asian countries prominently India and Pakistan? It’s a strong conviction among the scholars, diplomatic community, political and military analysts, the general and attentive public opinion, that nuclearisation of India and Pakistan in a phased manner, worked as a deterrent and created an environment of peace in the region. On the other way round, the menace of terrorism played an effective role in further widening the gulf between the two unfriendly neighbours India and Pakistan. It’s a foregone conclusion that the normalisation of Indo-Pak relations will pave the way for the overall development and maintenance of peace in the region.
