About the Author Arif Mohammed Khan, a distinguished politician and statesman, was born in Bulandshahar, Uttar Pradesh. He studied at Aligarh Muslim University and the University of Lucknow. He was the president of the Aligarh Muslim University Students Union (1973-73), the State Minister of Agriculture (1983-84), Energy (1984-85), Industry and Co. Affairs and Home Affairs (1985-86). He also served as Cabinet Minister of Energy and Civil Aviation (1989-90). A gifted writer who has made a deep study of the Islamic classics in order to understand Islamic law and philosophy, his articles make regular appearances in the country’s magazines and newspapers.
