Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy undertakes the adventure of his lifetime to find a treasure, but ends up finding something much more valuable in The Alchemist: A Graphic Novel. Summary Of The Book Santiago, who is the protagonist of this novel, is an Andalusian shepherd boy who decides to travel away from his home in Spain. His destination is a desert in Egypt, and he is going to look for a treasure buried in the pyramids. He decides to embark on this journey, believing a series of dreams to be prophetic. Along the way he meets a Gypsy woman, who tells him that there is a treasure in the pyramids of Egypt. Further on, he meets Melchizedek, a man who says he is a king, who introduces him to the concept of a Personal Legend. All the people he meets point Santiago towards the direction of his quest. Although nobody knows what the specific treasure is, or whether he will be able to overcome the obstacles along the way, he goes ahead with their support. Some time into his travels, he meets an Englishman who travels with him, and later, a beautiful Arabian girl called Fatima, whom he falls in love with. When he asks her to marry him, she asks him to find his treasure first. Although her reaction perplexes him at first, towards the end of the novel, when Santiago meets the Alchemist and realises what his treasure was, he understands that true love will never come in the way of realising one's personal goals. He also understands what it means to trust oneself and read the signs that life leaves for one to read.
