However, when he gets down to writing it, he realizes that the book and the shadows that surround his home are somehow connected. Summary of the Book David Martin is a young man who lives in an abandoned mansion that is located in the middle of Barcelona. His means of making a living is by writing extraordinary books and all of them are under a pseudonym. David has survived a terrible childhood and finds comfort in his world of books. Most of his time is spent on writing elaborate stories about the city. The dark stories he writes of the city could be true because his house has letters that give out hints about the previous owner and his mysterious death. Strange incidents follow, leaving David struggling to get through each day. Suddenly, he gets an offer to write a book that will change the hearts and mind of people.
