Cameron was born in Libertyville, Illinois, U.S. and studied at the Georgetown University before shifting to Fordham University. She began her career as a journalist for the Washington Post and then moved to Rolling Stone. She has taught creative unblocking, filmmaking and writing at The Esalen, Smithsonian, the New York Open Centre, and the Omega Institute for Holistic Studies. She has written three plays called Four Roses, Public Lives and The Animal in the Trees and some of her musicals are Avalon and Magellan. She has written books which include non-fiction works, and has also written screenplays, musicals, poetry, fiction and plays.
