This text examines the role of the brain's white matter in the organization of human mental function. The white matter is discussed as an important complement to cortical and subcortical gray matter in the distributed neural networks that subserve all aspects of cognition and emotion. The book is founded on the study of patients with white matter disorders, and considers white matter dementia and other neobehavioural syndromes in developing a behavioural neurology of white matter.
