The Bhagavad Gita is considered a religious text by Hindus and is composed of philosophical conversations between a warrior and his friend. Summary Of The Book The Bhagavad Gita is a series of recollections by Sanjaya to his blind king Dhritarashtra, describing the war of Kurukshetra. It contains the conversational exchanges between Arjuna and his friend Krishna, who also serves as his charioteer during a war against his cousins. It is embedded in the Mahabharata, and focusses on morals, values and ethical questions and their answers. Written in an informal, dialogue-based style, it aims at moral enlightenment through self-exploration, introspection and self assessment. Arjuna, a Pandava prince, undergoes a moral dilemma when he has to take up arms against his cousins, elders who have brought him up, teachers who have taught him everything he knows about warfare and very dear friends. His friend, guide and charioteer, Krishna, guides him towards self-discovery and better understanding of his duty towards his country and himself. This book was published in 2006 by Penguin Books India. About Bibek Debroy Bibek Debroy is an Indian Economist and has held various teaching positions and posts in the Finance Ministry. Apart from Bhagavad Gita, he has authored many economic books such as India: Redeeming The Economic Pledge, Transforming West Bengal, Changing The Agenda For An Agenda For Change, and Energizing Rural Development Through Panchayats to name a few. Born in 1955, Bibek Debroy completed his undergraduate at Presidency College of the University of Calcutta after which he studied at Delhi School Of Economics and Trinity College, Cambridge. He has taught economics at various colleges including Presidency College, Kolkata and Institute For South Asian Studies, Singapore where he is the Visiting Honorary Senior Research Fellow. Apart from teaching, he has also held positions such as Director of the Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies, Consultant to the Department of Economic Affairs of Finance Ministry.
