The Book of Job is a poetic and philosophical exploration of suffering, justice, and the nature of God. It begins with a prologue in which Job, a wealthy and upright man living in the land of Uz, is introduced. God praises Job for his righteousness, but Satan challenges Job's integrity, suggesting that he is only faithful because of his prosperity. To test Job's faith, God allows Satan to take away his wealth, children, and health.In his immense suffering, Job laments his misfortunes and questions the reasons behind his suffering. He wishes for an audience with God to plead his case. Three friends—Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar—come to comfort Job, but instead, they engage in a series of dialogues where they argue that Job's suffering must be the result of his sin. They urge him to repent, believing that God punishes the wicked and rewards the righteous.
