The Book of Exodus narrates the story of the Israelites' liberation from slavery in Egypt and their journey toward the Promised Land. It begins with the oppression of the Israelites under the Pharaoh, who orders the killing of their male infants. In response, Moses, born to a Hebrew family, is saved by being placed in a basket and found by Pharaoh's daughter. As an adult, Moses flees Egypt after killing an Egyptian who was beating a Hebrew, eventually encountering God in the form of a burning bush, where he is commanded to lead his people to freedom.Moses returns to Egypt, confronting Pharaoh and demanding the release of the Israelites. After a series of ten devastating plagues, including turning the Nile into blood and the death of the firstborn, Pharaoh relents. The Israelites flee, guided by Moses, and cross the Red Sea, which God parts for them. This miraculous escape leads to their covenant with God at Mount Sinai, where they receive the Ten Commandments, establishing laws to govern their new community.
