The Bone Clocks is the sixth novel written by David Mitchell. It has been long-listed for the Man Booker Prize for the year 2014. Summary of the Book In 1984, teenager Holly Sykes runs into a strange woman who offers a small kindness in exchange for 'asylum'. It is only after decades later that Holly understands what sort of asylum the woman was exactly seeking. The Bone Clocks depicts the roller-coaster ride of Holly's life from a damaged adolescence to old-age - a life not so very out of the mundane, yet punctuated by flares of premonition, people who emerge from nowhere, and brief pauses in the supposed laws of reality. A metaphysical thriller, contemplation on mortality and an account of our self-devouring times, this novel sizzles with the originality and wit, a work of fiction at its most mesmerizing and memorable best. About David Mitchell David Mitchell is an English novelist. He obtained his master’s degree in Comparative Literature from the University of Kent. His first novel, Ghostwritten, was published in 1999. His other works include Cloud Atlas, number9dream, Black Swan Green, and The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet. Mitchell was selected to be amongst the 100 Most Influential People in the World by the Time magazine in the year 2003. In the same year, he became one of Granta Best of Young British Novelists. The author currently lives in Ireland.
