The Sherlock Holmes stories have inspired several film, stage, and television adaptations, with more than seventy actors playing the world-renowned character in over 200 films. About the Author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859 - 1930) was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, to a wealthy Irish-Catholic family. He wrote his first short story while still a student.
