About The Author: Jacob P. Chamberlain (1802–1878) was a U.S. Representative from New York, serving during the Civil War. He was an advocate for women's rights and attended the 1848 Seneca Falls Convention, signing the Declaration of Sentiments. Chamberlain served in the New York State Assembly in 1859 and was elected to the Thirty-seventh Congress as a Republican. After his congressional term, he returned to his business endeavors. He passed away in Seneca Falls and was interred in Restvale Cemetery.
