Summary of the Book A seven year old orphan named Pip meets an escaped convict in a graveyard while visiting the graves of his parents. He is forced into finding food for the convict, as well as a file with which to cut away his shackles. Pip helps Abel escape the long arm of the law for he is still a wanted man. Pip's adventures slowly begin to divert him from the expectations he had for his life, great ones which would have led to the path of a gentleman. About Charles Dickens Charles Dickens was an English novelist, short story writer and social critic. He is best remembered for his prolific writing, and especially the novels: David Copperfield, A Christmas Carol and The Pickwick Papers. Considered the literary juggernaut of his age, Dickens constantly portrayed the poor and orphaned in his novels and stories, and touched upon the poor living situations which were rampant in those days.
