The makers of the Indian Constitution constructed a beautiful edifice with the help of material borrowed intelligently from other constitution of the world. The raw material was not indigenous, but the designing could have an originality of its own. In this work, an attempt has been made to present a study of the constitution in political as well as legal perspectives so that the readers may have a proper understanding of the Indian constitutional system. Ample case laws have been referred to with a view to highlight the legal interpretations of the provisions of the constitution for the students of constitutional law and politics. At the same time, critical reflections have been cast that may be of much value to the readers. Due note has been taken of the significant developments in the sphere of Indian government and politics. Hence, all the chapters have been suitably revised, retouched and enlarged for the benefit of those who have offered it as a paper for their university examinations or various competitive examinations.
