The Dhammapada is an important Buddhist scripture – a collection of sayings of the Buddha in verse form. Valerie Roebuck has provided a lucid translation of this seminal work of Buddhism. Summary of the Book The Dhammapada is one of the most ancient and valued texts of Buddhism. It forms a major part of the oldest enduring body of Buddhist canonical texts. Regarded as the genuine teachings of the Buddha himself, it is believed to be memorized and accumulated for oral transmission shortly after his passing. The Dhammapada talks about the struggle towards Nirvana – the supreme goal for the Buddhists. It discusses the narrow 'Path of Perfection' that leads to salvation. About Valerie Roebuck Valerie Roebuck practices and teaches meditation in the Samatha tradition. She has also authored the book, The Circle of Stars: An Introduction to Indian Astrology.
