Anne Frank’s The Diary Of A Young Girl narrates the harrowing story of a Jewish girl and her family during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. Summary Of The Book Set between 1942 and 1944, The Diary Of A Young Girl tells the story of the Frank family and their efforts to escape the Nazi regime in the Netherlands. On her thirteenth birthday, Anne was gifted a diary. This was at the time the Nazis had infiltrated the streets of Holland. She started to note down everything that happened from June 14th, 1942. Her diary narrated how her father, mother and sister, along with another family, the van Pels, had to go into hiding. This big group sought refuge in the attic of Anne’s father’s office in Amsterdam. During this time of hiding, Anne developed a familial bond with her diary and she started calling it Kitty. Deprived of any friends or companions of her age, she sought solace through writing in her diary. The writing reflected on her closeness with her father and her admiration for her sister’s towering intellect. She also noted her dislike for some members of the van Pels family. The two years and one month that these families remain trapped, Anne also came in terms with her sexuality as her relationship with Peter developed and blossomed. This diary is the real life story of Anne Frank and was first released under the title Het Achterhuis: Dagboekbrieven 14 juni 1942-1 augustus 1944 (The Annex: Diary Notes from 14 June 1942-August 1944). This was retrieved by the only survivor of the Frank family, Otto Frank, Anne’s father. It has been translated into 60 languages worldwide. This book was well received by critics and readers and is still considered one of the most popular books of the 20th century. In 1959, Albert Hackett and Frances Goodrich wrote the screenplay for the movie adaptation of this book.
