The Edible Woman is a literary masterpiece about a newly wedded bride and her strange condition. Margaret Atwood is at her best in this contemporary novel. Summary of the Book Like all newly wed brides, Marian is in jitters. She’s nervous, anxious, paranoid, unbelievable happy and scared at the same time. However, she’s also lost her appetite. She couldn’t eat meat, then she couldn’t eat eggs, followed by vegetables, cake and even pumpkin seeds! What’s worse, she has this strange feeling that she’s being consumed. She feels exhausted, spent. This novel displays Atwood’s genius for using metaphors and working them into a plot.
