The Enchantress of Florence is the winner of the ‘Best of the Booker’, written by Salman Rushdie. Summary of the Book This ninth novel penned by Salman Rushdie contains major themes such as eroticism, sex and humanism, and a debate as opposed to authoritarianism. It could be considered as a work of magic realism. The story is about the visit of a European to the Mughal emperor, Akbar’s court. He claims that he is born of an exiled Indian princess and an Italian from Florence and that he is a long lost relative of the king. Will the Mughal emperor believe him? About Salman Rushdie Salman Rushdie is an Indian-born British novelist and essayist. He is best known for his Booker Prize winning novel Midnight’s Children. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2007 for his outstanding services to literature. Rushdie was elected a Foreign Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2008. Some of his other notable works are The Satanic Verses, The Moor’s Last Sigh, Shalimar the Clown, The Ground beneath Her Feet, and Fury.
