The Community has everything that the need and want and there nobody feels like they are deprived of anything. However, the day comes when Jonas gets to know that The Community is not as perfect as it seems, and he must help The Giver find out what they are hiding. Summary of the Book The members of The Community have never experienced the lack of anything. Life is perfect for them and they have no wants or needs. Each family unit is allowed to have one male child and one female child, and each member of this community has their professions already chosen by the Committee of Elders. It seems as though nothing could ever go wrong with them. However, when twelve year old Jonas is selected as the Receiver of Memory at The Ceremony he finds that there are many changes in his life and he finds this quite strange. There is something that is of great importance to his community that has been missing for a very long time, and Jonas and The Giver are out to find out what it is. The book is written in a simple and clear manner and will touch the hearts of many readers.  About Lois Lowry Lois Lowry is an American writer who has written more than 30 books for children and an autobiography.
