The Goal: A Process of Ongoing Improvement is a fast-paced business novel, which has transformed management thinking in most of the western countries. Summary of the Book The book has been written as a work of fiction, in which the protagonist Alex Rogo is a plant manager. His factory is running in losses and he desperately tries to improve the performance and prevent his factory from shutting down. He has ninety days to save his factory or else it will be closed by corporate HQ leading to hundreds of job losses. He meets Jonah, a friend from his student days to help him gain some perspective and employ unconventional ways of thinking to come out of the disastrous situation. Jonah helps him solve the problems through a series of telephone calls and meetings. Alex’s struggle to save his factory makes the book a compulsive read. The book provides an important message to all the managers and explains the idea behind the Theory of Constraints developed by Eliyahu Goldratt. About Eliyahu Goldratt Eliyahu Goldratt was an educator, author, physicist, philosopher and a business leader. He was born in Israel into a rabbinic family. He went on to become a physicist and then a business management guru. He was the originator of the Theory of Constraints (TOC) and other TOC-derived tools. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree from Tel Aviv University and his Master’s degree and PhD from Bar-Ilan University. He has authored several books like The Race, The Haystack Syndrome and The Choice.
