In recognition of his scholarly achievements, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity (D.D.) degree in 1896 from Pennsylvania College, as well as from Wittenberg College and Susquehanna University. Additionally, he received an honorary Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) degree in 1902 from Pennsylvania College and a Doctor of Humanities (L.H.D.) degree in 1908 from Susquehanna University.
