The Hard Way is the tenth novel in the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child, and was first published in 2006. Summary Of The Book The protagonist, Jack Reacher, is an ex-military cop and is given a new assignment, to help a man named Edward Lane locate his missing step daughter and wife, who are victims of a kidnapping. Edward Lane is notorious for running a covert and illegal soldiers-for-hire operation, and is willing to cough up any amount of ransom money to get his beloved family back. Reacher sets on the kidnappers trail, but the more time he spends with Lane and this case, the more he suspects that Lane is hiding something. And thus he begins at square one, meticulously researching and working out the clues. It is then that he learns of his employer’s questionable past which featured an attempted hit on two of his ex-associates. During his investigation, Reacher is introduced to a stunning ex-FBI agent who is now a private investigator. Together, the duo unveil the shocking truth, and the astonishing thriller that commenced in the city of New York culminates in a nerve-racking showdown in a sleepy English countryside. About Lee Child Lee Child is the pen name used by Jim Grant, born in 1954, who is a British author and novelist. He has authored several books of the adventure and thriller genre like Killing Floor, The Enemy, A Wanted Man, Nothing To Lose, Persuader and Bad Luck and Trouble. Born in Coventry in England, Child studied at King Edward's School in Birmingham, which, coincidentally, was writer J. R. R. Tolkien’s alma mater as well. His career kickstarted with him working as the presentation director for Granada Television, where he worked from 1977 till 1995. He published his first novel, Killing Floor, in 1997 and in 2009 he was elected the President of the Mystery Writers of America. He has won several prestigious awards like the Barry Award, WH Smith Thumping Good Read Award, Specsavers' National Book Award, and Theakston's Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award. He is married to Jane, and the couple split their time between a house in the south of France and an apartment in Manhattan.
