Stories by a visionary master of supernatural fiction The second volume of the only annotated edition of M. R. James's complete writings currently available, The Haunted Doll's House and Other Ghost Stories brings together tales from James's final two volumes, A Thin Ghost and Others and A Warning to the Curious.  In these stories, James continues his transformation of the ghost story from its nineteenth-century heritage.  Drawing upon his deep knowledge of medieval history, biblical curiosa, and the hidden and mysterious corners of the English countryside, James Fashioned stories that, while drawing upon the ancient past, exhibit horrors that are all too balefully active in the present. This edition features a number of little-known tales that have rarely been assembled, including 'The Fenstanton Witch,' presented her for the first time a corrected text, and such distinctive items as a new translation of 'Twelve Medieval Ghost Stories' (a collection of stories from a fifteenth-century Latin manuscript) and a number of James's essays.
