The play centers around Argan, a hypochondriac who is obsessed with his health and convinced that he suffers from numerous ailments, despite no real evidence to support his claims. Argan's excessive reliance on doctors, as well as his belief in their often nonsensical treatments, becomes the source of both humor and social criticism in the play.The plot follows Argan as he attempts to marry his daughter, Angelique, to a doctor’s son, hoping to ensure constant medical care in his old age. However, Angelique is in love with a young man named Cleante, and she seeks to avoid her father's plans for her. Meanwhile, Argan’s wife, Béline, pretends to care for him but is actually more interested in his wealth, hoping to benefit from his death. The play unfolds through a series of comic misunderstandings, deceptions, and schemes, as Argan’s delusions are both exploited and challenged by those around him.
