Summary Of The Book This book is inspirational and has been providing religious guidance to readers for decades. It focuses on creating inner peace and detaching oneself from the outside world. It states that an important factor in leading a spiritual life is commitment to the Eucharist. The Imitation Of Christ exhorts readers not to focus on worldly and materialistic living, as those are just temporary. It says that one must not fall prey to temptation and develop a humble attitude. Spending time alone in silence is what the author considers an essential aspect in truly imitating Christ. Kempis was a canon regular, scribe, and author. He has also written The Inner Life, Prayers and Meditations on the Life of Christ, Soliloquy of the Soul, and Valley of Lilies. He was born in Germany in 1380. While schooling, he came in contact with the Brethren of the Common Life. He was influenced by the philosophy they followed, Gerard Groote's Modern Devotion. He later joined Mount St. Agnes and was ordained as a priest a decade later. He then developed his skills as an expert copyist and writer. He devoted his life to monastic living and devotional writing.
