About the Book:-The following little work pretends to no higher character than that of an eye-witness’s narrative, and boasts of nothing more valuable than its collection of facts. Whatever reflections the author may have suffered to escape him can be thrown aside by the mind that relishes them not: the history will remain the same. It is needless to detail to our readers the spirit of a system so well known as that of the Jesuits, or to remind them that, such as it was, its success in bringing Heathen nations at least within the pale of Christianity and of civilization, was equal to what had been effected by any other body.
