Summary of the Book In the wake of World War II, many children are evacuated from London to escape the Blitz. Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie are four such children, sent to live with professor Digory Kirke. The Pevensie children explore the Professor’s house. During one of their games, Lucy the youngest discovers a magical wardrobe which leads to the mystic land of Narnia. She returns to tell her brothers and sister who refuse to believe her at first. They are soon convinced when they too pass through the wardrobe into the land of Narnia. However, they do not realize that they have arrived at an inopportune time. The land is rising up in arms against its tyrannical ruler, the White Witch. The young Pevensie children are the only ones who can help the Narnians stand up against her, but they are not alone. They are aided by the might Aslan, a lion and the true lord of Narnia. About C. S. Lewis Clive Staples “C. S.” Lewis was an English novelist, lay theologian and literary critic. He is best remembered for The Chronicles of Narnia series of novels. Lewis was a close and personal friend of fellow writer J. R. R. Tolkien. This book was adapted into a hit film by Andrew Adamson and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures. Series Reading Order Sons of Adam and Daughters of Eve, this is the second book in The Chronicles of Narnia.
