This is the sixth book from the 10-volume series that translates the Mahabharata. The volumes attempt to explain the sub-plots of the epic that most of us are not too familiar with. Summary of the Book We all know what the basic plot of the Mahabharata is and even consider it to be one of the greatest stories ever told. However, much of the story is not clear to us as we have only concentrated on the main story. There are many sub-plots in the epic that are an important part of it. This book is the sixth volume of the 10-volume unabridged translation of the epic that completes the Drona Parva. It features the deaths of Abhimanyu, Jayadratha, Ghatotkacha and Drona. The Narayana weapon gets released at Arjuna. This is followed by Bhagadatta’s death. This volume explains some of the most ferocious wars that had taken place in Drona Parva. In the end, the war is almost over and Karna goes on to take Drona’s place as commander-in-chief. About Bibek Debroy Bibek Debroy is an Indian economist.
