Summary of the Book This title was considered a “black novel” at the time it was written – filled with fear and an ominous rise of tyrants like Robur, the villain in the story, and the idea of totalitarianism. Set in the United States in the summer of 1903, a series of mysterious events occur across the eastern US, caused by eerie objects moving with such speed that they are almost invisible. John Strock, the head inspector in the federal police department, also the first-person narrator of the story, goes to North Carolina to investigate. What he finds out, is that all the events are happening because of an outstanding inventor called Robur, who has perfected a new machine and calls it the 'Terror'. Will John Strock be able to prevent the impending danger? About Jules Verne Jules Verne was a French poet, playwright and novelist. He is known very well for his adventure novels and science fiction. Along with H. G. Wells and Hugo Gernsback, Verne is also referred to as ‘The Father of Science Fiction’. He has also authored, Around the World in Eighty Days, The Mysterious Island, Five Weeks in a Balloon, Off on a Comet, and From the Earth to the Moon, among many other books.
