Considered as one of the most stimulating novellas of the 20th century, The Metamorphosis is the story of a traveling salesman’s transformation into a giant insect-like creature. Summary of the Book Kafka’s Metamorphosis is the story of a man’s transformation into a verminous bug and how he has to deal with it, especially after discovering that he is a burden to his own family. The story subtly explores the strange and mystifying characteristics of the human mind by using complex allegories. The extraordinary originality of the story has the central character Gregor Samsa, a traveling salesman living this transformation, and becoming unfit at work, and all of it leading his family to start working again. His family members are terrified of his transformation, and Gregor has a hard time confronting all the adverse changes around him. About Franz Kafka Franz Kafka was a writer who wrote in German. He has written many short stories and novels that have made him one of the greatest writers of the twentieth century. Most of his works contain themes and archetypes of alienation, physical and psychological brutality, parent-child conflict, characters on a quest, bureaucracy and mystical transformations. Some of his most famous works are The Castle, A Hunger Artist, In the Penal Colony, and The Trial.
