This study examines the modalities of narrative representation of the 1857 Mutiny, in the historical novel. The interest for genre variations and for the iconic value of the event led to an extension of the analysis of the Mutiny novels from the origins to the present. Like Amitav Ghosh and Salman Rushdie, many writers have drawn their raw material from Indian history and produced forceful rebellion narratives. The book has great value for scholars interested in Indian novels dealing with the mutiny and relationship between history and fiction.
