But Narayanpur is seething within and it all erupts at once when a group of children dare to confront the police. About Shashi Deshpande Shashi Deshpande is an award-winning Indian novelist. She is the second daughter of Kannada dramatist, Sriranga. Born in Karnataka, she completed her education in Mumbai and Bangalore. She has a degree in Economics and Law. Deshpande was honored with the Sahitya Akademi Award for 'That Long Silence' and the Padma Shri Award in 2009.
