The striking quality of this book is its brilliant psychoanalysis of the behavioural patterns of women protagonists painted on a single canvas of universal womanhood by two different authors, cutting across continental boundaries. The selected authors Shobhaa De and Bharati Mukherjee are writers from diverse backgrounds. The former is a well-known socialite and a contemporary Indian writer while the latter a name to reckon with in the Diaspora Studies. The book is the result of intensive research and exploration of the similarities and dissimilarities of the women protagonists entangled in cultural, sexual, social, political conflicts and above all in psychological inner conflicts of the self.
