Journey back in time and follow the great adventurer Odysseus on The Odyssey, one of the greatest Greek epics by Homer. Summary of the Book Following the events of the Trojan War, Odysseus is yet to return home. His son waits for him anxiously, but Odysseus is still at sea. In this work, Homer describes his adventures, as he tries to find his way back home. He encounters monstrous beings who seek to thwart his path. The Sorceress, Circe, captures his men, turning them to pigs. Yet, Odysseus keeps one goal in front of him, the promise of a hard-earned rest in the comfort of his home. This is the second of the two classic epics Homer is remembered throughout history for, and perhaps one of mankind’s greatest adventure stories. About Homer Homer was a Greek poet, popularly considered to be the author of the Iliad and the Odyssey. Herodotus places his timeline around 850 BC, and other sources attribute his existence to the 7th or 8th Century BC. Homer’s works are considered to be the most influential classics of all time. Part of a much larger work, now long lost to civilization, these two epic poems have changed the way literature has evolved throughout the ages. The Odyssey is a sequel to the Iliad and it has been adapted into several other works and films.
