The Old Man and the Sea was honoured with the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in the year 1953. It was also mentioned by the Nobel Committee as contributing to the Nobel Prize in Literature conferred upon Hemingway in the year 1954. About Ernest Hemingway Hemingway was born in the United States and was an author and journalist. He has written several classic short stories and novels and has won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954. He even served in the army during the First World War which inspired him to write A Farewell to Arms. He committed suicide in 1961. His other works include the most famous The Sun Also Rises, To Have and Have Not, In Our Time, From Whom the Bell Tolls, and Across the River and into the Trees among many other works.
