The Origin of Species is the classic work on evolutionary theory by Charles Darwin, which first proposed the revolutionary theory that all life evolved from common ancestors. Summary of the Book In 1859, Charles Darwin released his most famous work: On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life, which went on to form the basis for future theories of how life has come to be. He introduced the scientific theory that diversity of life came about as a result of common descent through a continuous change in life forms, or evolution as he called it. He proposed that all life slowly changes, incorporating those changes which benefit its survival. This book puts forth his theories and showcase the first attempts to provide a scientific explanation for the origin of life in history. About Charles Darwin Charles Darwin was a nineteenth century English naturalist and writer, best known for proposing the evolutionary theory. He also wrote: The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex, and The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals. In 1831, Darwin journeyed with captain Robert FitzRoy, aboard the H.M.S. Beagle, and on this journey observed many species of life, slowly building his theory that all life evolved from common ancestors. He collaborated with Alfred Russel Wallace for joint publication of their theories, and proposed the theory he went on to call natural selection.
