In this book, Edward Simpson gives readers an in-depth account of the experience of surviving a natural disaster. Summary of the Book We hear of many natural calamities that take place around the world. People have suffered and lost a lot because of these disasters. This book takes a good look at the ones who came to intervene when these misfortunes took place. There could be many reasons for the cause of these tragedies. The author asks whether there could be a possibility of modernization being a cause. The people in these regions get over on calamity knowing that they are going to face another one very soon. How is it that they are able to live like this? About Edward Simpson Edward Simpson is Professor of Social Anthropology at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. He has published several works including Society and History of Gujarat since 1800 - A Select Bibliography of the English and European Language Sources (2011) and co-edited The Idea of Gujarat - History, Ethnography and Text (2010).
