In Politics, the ancient Greek philosopher and scholar, Aristotle, gives an in-depth analysis of politics, government and constitutions. Summary Of The Book Aristotle’s Politics is among a handful of ancient works on political science which have continued to influence philosophers and political thinkers, including the likes of Machiavelli, to this day. The relevance of this great work is evident from the fact that it is still a part of the syllabus in many noted universities across the world. In Politics, Aristotle deals with all the important aspects of political science. It is, perhaps, the most significant work on politics and governance. Aristotle analyzes the various forms of government. With careful examination, he determines the strengths and weaknesses of each of these systems, and goes on to establish which are more effective in theory and in practice. Politics is divided into 8 sections. The topics Aristotle deals with the State and an Introduction to the Ideal State, Economic Classification of Constitutions, the Constitutions of Phaleas, Hippodamus, the Spartan, the Cretans, Distribution of Political Power, Justice and Equality, Kingship, Merits and Demerits of Various Constitutions: Democracy, Oligarchy, Aristocracy, Constitutional Change, Functions of the Constitution, Citizenship, and Education. Apart from throwing light on all these aspects of politics and governance, Aristotle’s Politics also throws light on the Greek life of the time, and the working of the ancient Greek city-state. This particular edition has an introduction by T. A. Sinclair and Trevor J. Saunders, where they discuss the effect of Politics on philosophers and political thinkers, Aristotle’s ideas and beliefs, and the relevance of this ancient text in modern times.
