Two young boys decide to use their identical looks to change their lives, for a price neither of them is willing to pay. The Prince and the Pauper is a classic tale by Mark Twain. Summary of the Book Tom Canty is an ordinary young boy from one of the poorest families in Offal Court. He has always hoped for a better life. One day, when he sees Edward VI, the Prince of Wales, he receives a terrifying shock. The Prince looks just like him. He succeeds in his attempts to try and speak to the Prince, and discovers that the Prince wants a different life as well. They take on each others’ lives, and get ready to experience a different outlook on life. However, when Edward faces the bleak poverty rampant in England, and Tom experiences first hand the difficulties of the throne of England. About Mark Twain Mark Twain was the pseudonym of Samuel Langhorne Clemens, an American writer known best for The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Mark Twain has also written a little known historical novel based on the fictionalized events of the life and times of Joan of Arc.
