The Prophet is a book based on mysticism, comprising of 26 poetic essays that entail the story of a prophet returning home from a 12-year stay in a foreign city. This book has been so popular that it has been translated into 20 or more languages. Summary of the Book While attempting to board the ship that will take him home after a 12-year stay in a foreign city, The Prophet is stopped by a group of people. These are people who belon to the city he is leaving behind. They ask him to speak of the mysteries of life and so he does by discussing love, marriage, beauty, death, reason and passion, among other topics. Each section has something powerful to say and expresses life as something to be soaked in and enjoyed to the fullest. This is one of these books that you can't put down because you want to read “only one more section”. The beauty of the author's words and the flow of language used to make simple statements makes this a book that you will be glued to. About the Author Kahlil Gibran, Born January 6, 1883, Bsharri, Lebanon Gibran Khalil was a Lebanese American philosophical essayist, novelist, poet, and artist. Gibran’s literary and artistic work has a highly romantic outlook. He was influenced by the Bible and drew inspiration from Friedrich Nietzsche, and William Blake. He excelled in Arabic and English and his writings were based around themes such as love, death, nature, and a longing for the homeland. His work is highly expressive of his deeply religious and mystic nature.
